In our recent survey the most requested improvement was in trial balance importing. We are pleased to report that we have now released a number of new features and improvements in this area:

  1. We have added the ability to pre-select sections for trial balance imports by adding another column titled 'section' (see for example the trial balance import template).
  2. We have added a feature into 'edit' within the trial balance page where sections may be changed.
  3. We have added the further option of simply placing a heading between sections such as 'Income' so that everything under that heading will be put in that section.
  4. Current features will continue to function the same - in that trial balances may still be imported without a 'section' column and dragged and dropped as is currently the case.
  5. If a 'section' column is used only those items actually tagged with a section will be imported. So this is a way of filtering out unwanted headings and sub-totals - simply by leaving the 'section' column blank rather than needing to delete them from the trial balance. NOTE: WHERE USING 'SECTION' COLUMN FOR SECOND YEAR IMPORTS ALL COLUMNS MUST BE CODED - NOT JUST NEW ACCOUNTS. Uncoded lines will not be imported.
  6. We have also removed the requirement to save files as CSV. This means that Excel type files can all be imported directly (.xls, .xlsx and Xero's Excel format).

More details on these features are here.
